Taught by frontline rescuers

Skills that hold up in the field.

HeartSafe EMS training is frontline rescuer led: field-tested instruction from paramedics and firefighters who respond to real emergencies. They teach the skills that hold up in the field, not just the ones that pass a test.

Skills you practise

Hands-on, every time.

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children and infants
  • AED use
  • Choking response
  • Serious bleeding control
  • Allergic reactions and medical emergencies
  • Injury response and emergency scene management
  • Team response during high-stress situations

How the practical session works

From knowledge to skills evaluation.

  1. Complete the knowledge portion first, online (blended) or in class.
  2. Practise each skill hands-on with a HeartSafe EMS instructor.
  3. Work through realistic emergency scenarios as a team.
  4. Complete your skills evaluation for certification.

Training at your location

Train where you would respond.

Hands-on skills practice and assessment can take place at your workplace with a HeartSafe EMS instructor, so your team trains with the same layout, equipment and people they would respond with.

Why practice matters

CPR skills fade within months.

CPR skills can decline within months without practice. That is why HeartSafe EMS recommends annual hands-on CPR, AED and choking-skills renewal for teams in childcare, healthcare, aquatics, recreation and other higher-risk settings.
